The core of the entire collection represents the traditional musical cultures of 68 major ethnolinguistic groups across the Philippine archipelago as well as field recordings, documentation, and studies of selected musical cultures in Southeast Asia, such as Indonesia, South China, and Malaysia. This digitization project aims to transfer this collection from analogue format to digital format which will make restorative and preventive conservation, and use of the materials easier. This project is currently being funded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. |

Guided by a form for data gathering that was used by the researchers of the Department of Music Research from the 60’s to the early 80’s, student volunteers from the Department of Musicology, monitored the UPCE staff are now collating the fieldnotes in the Jose Maceda Collection to prepare a databank of descriptive metadata, which will be linked to the digitized audio files. Both the photographs and selected fieldnotes are also being scanned on jpeg format for the purpose of storage redundancy and access.
